Memories long-forgotten don't come back in a flood, to all be remembered at once, but in a steady stream or a slow trickle, piece by piece, to eventually put a jigsaw of history together. But the one thing that's stood out against everything else, the person who appears in so many of the pieces she's earned back, is him. She doesn't remember how they met, but she remembers how important he was to her. She remembers feeling safe and protected with him.
That's why it's so easy to get wrapped back up in him again. Because she already was, before, and he represents safety to her. So she waits until her sisters are otherwise occupied for the night and then she slips out and away from the homestead, making a beeline for her rendezvous spot.
She doesn't immediately see him, but... maybe she's early. Maybe he's hiding. He does so enjoy games. She wanders around the base of the tree, staring up trying to see if she can make out any movement up in the treehouse. Nothing as far as she could tell... but she may as well duck inside while she waits.
He's waiting for her in the treehouse, because it's smarter to keep out of sight. No sense in calling attention, and the pattern is easy enough to pick up again no matter how long she was gone. So he sits, and he waits, until he hears her at the base of the tree, and he almost pops his head out to give her a clue but then she moves towards the treehouse and there's no need. So he settles back in a chair and waits until she steps through the doorway, crosses the space to pull her into his arms, nuzzles at her neck, inhales the scent of her until it invades the whole of him.
He'd missed her more than he has words for, had gone a little crazy when she was taken from him, but now that he has her back he's never letting her go if he can help it.
Instantly, he's crowding her space and there's nothing unsettling about it. She circles her arms around his neck and buries her face into the crook of his neck.
"I miss you," she whispers softly in his ear, clinging tight with no intention of letting go just yet. She just tilts her head and presses her lips to his in a kiss full of equal parts desperation and a sense of home.
Safe. Safe. safe. Her body thrums with the feeling of it with his arms around her.
